SUFFERING & CELEBRATING

DAILY READING

"You became imitators of us and of the Lord; in spite of severe suffering, you welcomed the message with the joy given by the Holy Spirit." 1 Thessalonians 1:6

Let's become imitators of these godly men, as the Thessalonians were, even as they faced the real test of severe suffering. May we think like Peter, who referred to his body as a tent he would soon put aside (2 Peter 1:13-14), so that whatever suffering are to face will be simply be to us a temporary stepping stone into our permanent life with our permanent bodies.

"Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands." 2 Corinthians 5:1

This is something to get excited about!

"Jesus is the Truth. We believe in Him, —not merely in His words. He Himself is Doctor and Doctrine, Revealer and Revelation, the Illuminator and the Light of Men. He is exalted in every word of truth, because He is its sum and substance. He sits above the gospel, like a prince on His own throne. Doctrine is most precious when we see it distilling from His lips and embodied in His person. Sermons [and songs] are valuable in proportion as they speak of Him and point to Him. A Christ-less gospel is no gospel and a Christ-less discourse is the cause of merriment to devils." C.H. Spurgeon
